Why aren’t you suppose to mismatch battery brands?

I’ve always heard that you aren’t suppose to mismatch alkaline batteries when putting them in your battery-operated stuff. Like today, I used 2 Rayovac’s and 1 Duracell because that’s all I could find in my junk drawer. The object works just fine. Why do they say not to mix? Will the battery life not last as long? Why? Are there any other “bad” things about mixing and matching? Just something silly I always wondered about.

Nothing’s gonna explode, but different brands of battery may use different chemicals in different proportions which may cause the current they produce to be slightly different. One battery may have slightly higher amperage (force of current) than another. That uneven current can potentially damage your electronics, especially over time.
